A New Steve Jobs Statue – Taking Abstract Too Far?

To commemorate the 59th birthday of one of the most legendary individuals of our time, Steve Jobs, another statue has been completed, and is standing erect on Apple’s company grounds in Cupertino, California.  Of roughly 10,200 entries, the design chosen was produced and submitted by a Serbian artist named Dragan Radenović.  As you can see by the photo, this statue is a bit abstract and strange to say the least.

The statue is so specifically unique that I believe most people’s reactions will be either love or hate.  The unusual portrayal depicts Steve Jobs’ head at the peak of a thin metal looking column.  If you’re wondering what the strange objects popping out of the sides of the column, why, they are Cyrillic script and binary 1’s and 0’s.  I suppose you could view the statue as a good representation of the field Jobs symbolizes.  However, I think it is plain weird.

Other statues of Steve Jobs were a little more of the conventional type, like the one found in Budapest.

Perhaps I am being too critical of Radenovic’s work, however I prefer the simple representation of this world renowned man.  It would be hard to represent all that he encompassed through simple objects, like 1’s and 0’s.  But that is just my personal opinion.
