Contacts with Built-in Cameras??

Technology does not cease to amaze me! Google has announced a new product that I believe will be the start of a new big fad; contact lenses with built in cameras!
My first reaction was, “this sounds fake.” But believe the rumors, because they are true. Google has made this announcement themselves. My second reaction was… in the wrong hands this could be potentially disastrous. I mean, just think about all the thousands upon thousands of videos that get posted daily without consent. A peeping Tom in possession of these lenses would have a field day!
While the thought of having all of my many daily embarrassing mishaps getting caught on camera of an unsuspecting me is a tad frightening, the purpose of these camera contacts is actually truly impressive. With these contacts, those who are visually impaired and need assistance can now get it with ease. The contacts have the ability to alert the wearer of obstacles he/she may have missed. Like say, a step you almost didn’t see due to bad eyesight or (if you’re like me) due to rampant clumsiness.
This kind of technology makes me feel like we’ve reached the future! However, as is my nature, I am experiencing a little bit of skepticism. With such a teeny tiny camera, wouldn’t it run out of battery very quickly? Google Glasses are much bigger and even they do not have a long battery life. How are these contacts going to have enough power to be worn daily without the recharge process becoming a total nuisance? Not only will they have the capability to record with a simple blink, but they also relay information to your phone. Those are some cool features; features that require juice.
I am sure that there is a simple answer. After all, Google rarely disappoints…if ever. I can’t wait to see the product when it launches! Until then, if you have answers for me, I’m all ears!
